About a “branch” called GameStop

Remember my trend forecast for 2021? So a month and a half later comes the GameStop stock story.

Summary Of Events:

At the beginning of last December I published my annual trend report for 2021, where the main trend I pointed out was the decentralization and transfer of power from the center to the edges — from the institutions that hold power to the people.

What did I see then?

We saw this trend in the scattered political protests over the past year, and we continued to see the decentralization within the pandemic, in what I called in the report: “The Future of Branchendising”: we have become a branch of our workplace, school, restaurant, our health services, etc. This change obliges us to learn how to act and manage this decentralization process.

Fast Forward 2021 Trend Report

While writing the trend report, I did not think that this was just a technological or logistical change, but rather a change that marks a more complex process of transferring knowledge and power (usually with the support of technological capabilities) that we will see in more and more industries in the coming years.

***

As I read recently about the GameStop stock story, I saw once again a vivid picture of the decentralization process happening, and on top of that — an attempt to transfer power from the big players of the capital market to the small private investors.

***

This is exactly the power of a mega-trend: to spread (CNN reported that the GameStop Phenomena has gone global), but also to expand to more industries and categories in the coming years.

So now, If we recognized this mega trend exists, we should expect it to come to new places — I wonder what the next place will be?
